[This a fan review of the Zee 5 original series Never Kiss Your Best Friend. I am not a professional critic, so please do consider my mistakes if any.]
The series features the Television Heartthrob Nakuul Mehta and Anya Singh as Sumer Singh Dhillon and Tanie Brar. The series is an adaptation of the popular writer Sumrit Shahi’s bestselling novel “Never Kiss Your Best Friend”.
The show is a story of two people who meet, become friends and discover life together. The story proceeds in two-time frames. Firstly they introduce us to 27 years old Tanie Brar and Sumer Singh Dhillon, and later we are introduced with their 7 years younger selves in flashback.
As Sumer Singh Dhillon and Tanie Brar, Nakuul Mehta, and Anya Singh have been amazing throughout the series. Apart from the main leads, even the supporting cast has been truly amazing. A special mention to Niki Walia for portraying Tanie’s mother in such a brilliant manner. She as a typical desi mom with her amazing Punjabi accent has been a treat to watch.
Why NKYBF is a Good Watch?
NKYBF is a show that deals with various ups and downs related to friendship. Even with all the bittersweet plots and comedy, the story seems quite relatable, especially for teenagers and young adults. A light-hearted drama, having a well-knitted story performed by an extremely amazing cast. The chemistry between Nakuul and Anya has been exceptionally good. Both the actors have done a great job in both the time frames and that helps you to relate to the story even better.
NKYBF also promises some great direction and cinematography that keeps you glued to the screen throughout the series.
Why I Think a Season 2 Might Be in the Line?
As the story progressed, the chances of having a season 2 of Never Kiss Your Best Friend seem even more prominent. Just as we saw in the novel, [for those who have read the novel “Never Kiss Your Best Friend”] even the series progresses based on Tanie’s point of view. But as it goes, a few important parts of Sumer’s part of the story seem a miss. Also, the series ends with a sequence that clearly hints on a season 2.
If I am right or wrong regarding this, only time will tell.
If you are a fan of sweet, simple rom-com, without major drama Never Kiss Your Best Friend can be a perfect pick for you. The show also offers some great music that is quite refreshing. So in short, Never Kiss Your Best Friend can be your perfect choice to binge with your friends on the weekend.

NKYBF is certainly a good watch that offers a fresh story of two friends. Anya's first digital debut but she looks very confident on screen. The friendly chemistry between Sumer and Tanie is the main USP why one should subscribe to Zee5 for watching it. They look very comfortable with each other, and not for a second you could miss their scenes together. Nakuul is definitely at his best again. Well if I have to talk about NKYBF then, I would say it was totally one amazing web series (and I watched a web series the first time) and I throughout enjoyed binging on it. Nakuul sir, as always you have slain in your role and it was amazing watching you doing something completely different apart from TV. The first scene of Sumer and Tanie meeting is so unique itself. Tanie's constant talks to the audience keep us more in the scenes and Sumer's cool, chill attitude keeps us entertained. Nakuul and Anya have done a fabulously great job in both the periods. Friendly and fun talks between them are so exciting and entertaining. Their later life after college has shown maturely and the growth of the characters is so perfect. Never kiss your best friend is a perfect blend of emotions. The show strikes a perfect balance between love and friendship. NKYBF is a great watch show. It Defines a pure bond of friendship and love. There are even a few scenes that make you feel like to rewatch it on repeat. Nakuul and Anya have played their character in a very convincing manner. They made the character come alive on screen. Loved Niki ma'am's character as Preet Ji. Her comic timing has been great throughout the show. Heard some great music after quite a long time. Jee na paunga will give an emotional ride. This series has a beauty, which from the beginning till the end didn't fade. Nakuul Mehta and Anya Singh totally lived the characters and both of them had great companionship. A very feel good series and am glad this is totally different from the book. Every actor associated completely did justice to the characters, yes there were some places where I couldn't connect with the situations or character's emotions. My favorite scene should be Sumer's outbreak in front of his parents saying he just needed acceptance from them. I could really connect with Sumer and Nakuul totally nailed the scene. Got goosebumps. Extra brownie points for the cinematography, songs, and costumes. These made the series into a different level. The love bound by camaraderie, that is what I felt about Never Kiss Your Best Friend.
